Letters from
Our Patients
Everyday at Saint Mary’s Health Care we receive numerous
letters from our patients expressing their heartfelt gratitude
for the exceptional level of care they receive here at Saint
Mary’s. It is our pleasure to share some of these with
you. Be sure to check back to read new letters.
Dear Mr. McCorkle:
I write this letter on behalf of our entire extended family.
I also wish to communicate my own thanks. Our mother recently
fell early in the morning and suffered a painful hip fracture.
She was immediately transported by ambulance to the Emergency
department at Saint Mary’s where she was treated promptly
with both skill and compassion. The level of her dementia
made compassionate treatment especially necessary. During
the several days of her hospitalization in the Intermediate
Surgical Care Unit, she was treated with a level of skill
and kindness that continues to warm our hearts. One nurse
and her assistant, followed by another, then another and yet
another, cared for her with understanding, patience and compassionate
sensitivity. That same understanding and sensitivity extended
to their dealings with us. It is risky to begin to name names,
since in the process one invariably misses people worth being
mentioned, but I would like nonetheless to list those that
readily come to mind: Susanne, Melissa, Denise, Michelle,
Henrietta, Steve and Angela. The case manager was also of
enormous help to both my mother and all of us. To everyone
associated with that unit and with our mother’s care,
we can only say “thank you” from the bottom of
our hearts.
Dear Mr. McCorkle:
I’m writing to you as one of your associates but also
as a recent patient at Saint Mary’s. I’ve worked
at Saint Mary’s for more than 28 years, but I’ve
never experienced Saint Mary’s as an inpatient until
recently. I want to thank you for piloting Saint Mary’s
toward being such a world-class institution. I had an opportunity
to have my surgery and stay at The Lacks Cancer Center. I
felt as though I were staying in a very high-class hotel complete
with room service. The atmosphere combined with the outstanding
physician, nursing and ancillary staff care was wonderful
during every stage of my stay. I also want to give a special
thanks to the nurses on 4-Lacks. Because of my 28 years of
nursing experience, I could tell when things were busy. Yet
each busy RN and PCA went out of their way to care for me
and see that all my needs were met. Please convey my thanks
to the nurse manager and nursing staff on 4-Lacks for a job
well done. My inpatient experience has given me cause to be
thankful and proud to be part of the team of our world-class
hospital.
Dear Mr. McCorkle:
I am writing to share my great satisfaction with the customer
service, compassion and medical proficiency of Saint Mary’s
associates as well as my physician, Dr. John G. Hartmann.
My surgery was a while ago and I have meant many times over
to write in thanks and gratitude for the professionalism of
all involved in the chain of scheduling and implementing my
surgical care. I had been very anxious prior to my surgical
procedure, mostly with regard to experiencing general anesthesia.
I was put at ease by every person I encountered. They were
very responsive to my questions and concerns. The clerk at
the surgical preoperative area was especially gracious. Thank
you again for a wonderful health care experience and for fostering
a professional, nurturing environment in your surgery department.
Dr. Hartmann is outstanding in his clinical acumen and your
surgery department has helped support his expertise while
providing patient satisfaction. Thank you again.
